I have just installed Win2K server. I would like to setup Active Directory. I use DCPROMO.exe to start this. I fill in Domain Controller for a new domian, create a new domain tree, create a new forest of Doamin trees, enter DNS details, Netbios, I accept database and log locations, I accept shared system volume location, then an error occurs stating:
Active Directory Installation Wizard
The Wizard cannot contact the DNS server that handles the name test.com to determine if it support dynamic update. Confirm your DNS configuration, or install and configure a DNS server on this computer

I then click OK, and select:
Yes, install and configure DNS on this computer. I make Permissions compatible with pre-Windows 2000 Servers, I enter the Directory Services restore mode password, then I accept the Summary Screen and click next.

An error the occurs which states:
Active Directory Installation Failed
The network location cannot be reached. For more information about Network troubleshooting, see windows Help.

The Machine has 2 x Network cards, and is currently set up in a workgroup.
I would like to turn this Server into a domain controller.

Thanks in advance for your time and any assistance.

zee7,

is your nic card with the local ip address plugged into something (switch or hub) while you are installing AD ?

No it is not. But the LAN indicator at the bottome keeps saying the network card is not plugged in. Also when I go to ipconfig, I don't have a Iip address. Any ideas.

Thanks

I plugged into a hub! Now the NIC is connected. Active Directory is now installed, Thanks Binkin!
