I have set up a AD with two servers. Up until today everything appeared to be fine. From first thing this morning they refuse to replicate. The message I receive is 'The following error occurred during the attempt to contact the domain controllers: The RPC server is unavailable'. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

You still have network connectivity, can ping the servers from each other? If so, have a look at your DNS, this is the usual culprit in AD replication problems (although if replication has been OK up until now this may not be the case here)

Also check your event logs for any other unusual messages, and make sure nothing on the network is blocking traffic between the two servers on the appropriate ports (TCP 135 in this case, but you should also keep open 88, 137-139, 445)

Assuming all this is OK, there is an article in the MS Knowledgebase that may be relevant (Q257187) if time sync has drifted between the two servers.
