Active Directory - Policies through VPN

Has anyone had experience in dealing with Active Directory and remote VPN clients? Machine based policies do not seem to make it through the VPN. I realize the fact that the remote VPN PC normally receives an IP address on boot. The VPN connection is established after this- Active directory seems to want to establish machine identity by mapping the IP to the MAC address of the PC.
