We are currently in an Exchange mixed-mode single-site organization (Active Directory is in Native mode). When I open the Exchange 2000 System Manager on the Exchange server, everything is okay. The error occurs if I open the system manager via the mmc snap-in, either on the server, or from a client workstation. I can expand the tree to see Global Settings, Recipients, etc. As soon as I try to expand beyond that, it hangs for a couple of seconds, and I get the following:
"Active Directory configuration could not be read from the global catalog. Please check your network configuration and try again."
I click okay, and the message goes away for the rest of the session, and everything expands fine after that. We are experiencing some minor Exchange issues, but no other network issues would indicate a problem with the Global Catalog. I haven't had any luck in finding an indication of what would generate this error. Anyone seen this before?
