I'm installing new Active Directory domain. the plan is to have Linux as my DNS server. I know that the first DC needs a DNS.
How can I create my domain having the first DC and having Linux as the DNS server. Your reply is very appreciated

First of all, WIndows 2000 AD require a DNS that supports:
- SRV records
- and if it is possible: dynamic updates

If dynamic updates are not possible, then you have to create manually all entries that Windows2000 needs:
- _msdcs
- _sites
- _tcp
- _udp

Here is an article how to create them.
I don't know what BIND version you have on that Linux server. But as I know, BIND8 supports both requirements.

I wouldn't put yourself through that exercise in frustration. It is very easy to set up DNS for your DC took us about 15 mins. What we did here is just set up the DNS on our DC but we only use it for internal DNS resolution. We also set up a Linux DNS server to handle external requests and it is also set up as our domains forwarder.
Enable forwarders for your server and put your Linux DNS Server IP as the Forwarder IP.
In the DC's network connections TCP/IP properties the DC's IP has to be listed as primary DNS. List Linux DNS server ip as secondary.
If you use DHCP, then in the scope options DNS entry make sure your DC is listed first and your Linux DNS server is listed second.
