Action Script Tutorial

I'm new to flash so if someone could point me to where I could get some info on Action Scripting it would be greatly appreciated.

I am trying to declare a variable (number) and then if a button is pressed within my movie it will change the colour of that button. There will be 8 buttons so when another button is pressed that button changes colour and the other button reverts back to it's original colour.

I thought by declaring a variable and then assigning the if statement to each button would be the easiest way?
