Act as part of the OS a security issue?

I have some developpers who would like to add the "authenicated Users" group to the "act as part of the operating system" group in an effort to verify users within their app... Will this present any type of a security problem? They claim that their app needs this to be the case in order for it to function properly.

Any input is appreciated!!
