Hi. I'm new to InDesign, and am using version 2.0. The document I am working on is a custom landscape page (360mm x 246mm) which will to print on standard A3. I am printing to a Poscript file and then distilling it in Acrobat 4.0, with a custom joboptions file provided by printshop that I am working with . I have 2 questions?

1. When you select the Device Independant PPD, why are you locked out from the page 'Setup' attributes, eg: page size, orientation, , Offset, Gap, etc.? I assumed (silly me), as it was device indenpendant, that it would take the relevant settings from the document, but when I distill it it defaults to a standard (size unknown ...maybe A4) vertical page format that is not A3. I thought it might also be a Postscript problem but it doesn't seem like it, cause the part of the document it does print is perfect.

2. What is the dfference between the various Acrobat Disitller PPD's in the dropdown list? ie:

Acrobat Distiller
Acrobat Distiller CS
Acrobat Distiller CT
Acrobat Distiller J
Acrobat Distiller K

Thanx for your help.

RE: Q1

Device independent does not lock you into a page size - this is why you do not have options for this. This is determined later by the device. Distiller will let you determine the page size when you distill.

See if your printer can accomodate PDFs created directly from InDesign. While it has been appropriate to print to PS from other apps like PageMaker and then distill later in Distiller, InDesign is pretty solid with its PDF output. ID2 can also let you spit out Acrobat 5 PDFs if needed.

Thanx. Some times ya can get a little lost and can't see the forest for the trees.
