Out PIX fw uses line numbers in its ACLs. Is this possible on Cisco routers? We have two 7204s running 12.2(19a) code. We have a very large inbound ACL and it would make my life a lot easier to use sequence/line numbers. What code version do you have to be running to use line numbers for your ACLs?

So if I am using extended ACLs (104, 105 etc) then I can't use them?

Are there any other differences between named and extended ACLs? Also, how do the sequence number work? If I have three rules with sequence numbers 1, 2, and 3 and I add a new rule as rule 2 will all rules below that bump down so that the old rule 2 is now 3 and the old 3 is now 4 etc?

Thanks.

Do you know what version IOS I would have to go to for this?

I am running 12.2(19a) so I should be able to use sequence numbers. Can you provide me the correct syntax to do so? I havn't been able to find any good doco on how to do this. I would love to convert my ACLs to use these. Thanks.

AyrishGrl, I don't think this is available in the mainline version of 12.2. You either need a later 12.2T release or 12.3.
