acFormatXLS in docmd.sendobject error 2282

When I use the docmd.sendobject method to send a report in Excel format, I get run time error 2282, output format not available.

If I leave the output format arguement blank so it prompts me, and then I choose xls, it works.

The docmd.outputto method works fine with acFormatXLS.

This is in Access 2002.
