I have been trying to help one of my clients to troubleshoot “Account is Not Authorized to Log In to this Station” issue.
He has a small workgroup network including 20 XP and some Linux computers. The computer with the problem can ping other computers by ip and name. Net view \\remotepcname lists remote PC’s sharing information. Other computers can browse this computer without any problems. He gets this message “Workgroup_name is not accessible… Account is Not Authorized to Log In to this Station” whenever he tries to browse the workgroup from that computer.
I have asked him to try the following:
1. Make sure this computer in the same workgroup;
2. Stop or restart Computer Browser – no difference and get the same error.
3. No errors in Event Viewer.
4. Nbtstat –n displays correct group name and host name.
5. Run Nbtstat –R – no difference.
6. Enable or disable Send Unencrypted Password to Connect to 3rd Party SMB Servers – no difference.
7. No firewall running.
8. Both Server and Workstation services are running.
Any suggestions?
