I have a end user who can establish a vpn connection from home. Problem? Can't access shared drives at all, even when using \\pcname\folder.

I think I need to set his machine as part of my domain but I don't have access to his machine and I can't give him the password to do this.

Any idea on how I go about doing this?

Thx.

What happens if instead of \\servername\sharename your user tries connecting to \\ip_address\sharename?

It prompts for the login but it doesn't accept the credentials. I've had him use USERNAM: \\Domain\username then enter the password and also using just the username and password.

Taking a step back & looking back at your first post, I may have incorrectly assumed something. Does the behavior of the client any different when using \\servername\sharename vs. \\ip_address\sharename? Or is the result the same?

Next, does that username & password combination work properly when inside the LAN without VPN - in other words, if the home user's machine were brought into the building & plugged directly into the network, would it work?

Well I get prompted to enter username and password but with the right credentials it's still doesn't work.
