I've somehow made it impossible for any machine on the network to access one particular machines shared drives. The machine can be seen on the network but if you try to view it's shares the standard network path cannot be found message appears.
The folders i want to see are shared on the actual machine and i can verify that by looking in Computer Management. Also the server service and computer browser service are both running so no problem there.
Any ideas where else to look??

All shares are not found, including the default hidden ones.

It sounds as if you have removed permissions from the NTFS security tab.

Permissions are a share are set at two places: on the Share itself; and in the Security tab.

You need to reconcile both places to ensure you have not locked out unintentionally your remote users.

Both the permissions are set correctly - Everyone has full access to the share and also in the security options. Also there is no limit to the number of connections.
I can't even get it to display the 'Printers' and 'Schedulded Tasks' folders which is the usual defaults shown when browsing a system over a network.

SOLVED - My File and Print sharing in Networking had got itself in a bit of a mess. Deleting the facility and adding it again after a reboot resolved it.

"Also there is no limit to the number of connections."
The limit is 10.

. File and Print Sharing appears installed, but Client for Microsoft Networking as well as ?
. Netbios over TCP/IP enabled?
. Identical Workgroup name given the machine?
. Unique computer name given the machine?
. No firewall issue?
. Spooler service running?
. No blank or empty passwwords used?

Located the problem to be a componant that was installed for a dialler program (AT&T). The vpn application installs a net firewall componant which, although you are told in all areas of windows that file sharing is operational, these get overided by this componant - which isn't partically easy to see.

Oh well, you learn something new every day!
