I have a shared folder on my win2k cpu. When I try accessing it with a win98 cpu over the network, a dialog box comes up with something that says IPC$ somthing for the username (I'm unable to change this value) and the password field is empty. I try putting in the Admin password of the win2k cpu, but that didn't work. I've tried looking around on the internet and in books but all the information I find assumses you know everything and doesn't go into any detail. Anyone?.... anyone? Bueller?

create user on windows 2000 machine with the name used to log on to the network. than it will work fine. With admin privelages tho!

with the name of each win98 computer that I plan on accessing my w2k share with?

If you have an user name in win 98, make a new user in win 2000 with the same user name. add administrator right.
Other Idea is the folder you are shared used a new share name.
In my network it happing all the time, only thing to do is
enter user name and password.

I will try to send you an article about from Microsoft.

Basically Win 95 and 98 u can access without a username and passwrd, but with win2k because its secure u need a user name and password. Ok If u r on a Microsoft Network u will get a dialog box on win95/98 machine as Microsoft Networking. Well this is where u put in the user name and password that has admin rights to the network.
