Wondering why the programme, Access 97, opens itself AGAIN, making two instances of it run, everytime I go to perform a Mail Merge to Word 97 (it doesn't happen when merging to Word 2000). Is this a bug?

Also, I can't get Word 97 to automatically open the raw merge doc (i.e. the one without the merge data in it). I need the document to open BEFORE the fields are merged, in case the User wants to select more fields etc. It works fine in Word 2000. But in Word 97 it will only show the merged doc. The User has to go to the file menu to find and open the 'unmerged' document if they need to edit any fields. It would be better if it automatically came up. As I say, it's fine in Word 2000.

Just wondering if anyone has come across this as well?

Maria

I don't know if you can classify the problem as a bug.

When you run MailMerge from Word it looks for an application called "Microsoft Access" or something similar. If you've added an Application Title to the startup parameters of your database, the application title is probably not "Microsoft Access." Word can't find a running instance of "Microsoft Access" so it starts another. The work around is to remove the Application Title from the database.

This may not be the only cause of this problem but it is a documented cause. Terry L. Broadbent - DBA

Many thanks Terry. I'll have a look at this. Much appreciated, Maria
