Hi,

Does anyone have any idea how to install the access xp runtime files so that i can deploy my access application without the user having the full Microsoft Access Application.

I have tried the package wizard that comes with office xp developer, but that crashes out whenever i choose a database to package.

What i am really looking for is an MSI that i can install.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Deleco

The Package & Deployment wizard would be your best option.

If that's not working how about creating a self-extracting WinZip file?

Ed Metcalfe.

Please do not feed the trolls.....

Self extracting zip sounds good but what files do i need in there...

Deleco

Deleco,

I do the same thing. The only way I know to accomplish what you want is the first suggestion made by Ed above.

There may be a problem in obtaining the distribution package however. Microsoft used to supply it as a seperate program. If you had Office or even just Access you could purchase the "Develpers Tool Kit" as an after thought and use it to make your distrubution package.

This is no longer possible as you must purchase Office with the Developers Tool Kit at one time. If you do not, Microsoft will tell you in so many words, "Thanks sucker, now go and purchase it all over again with the tool kit."

They will not sell it seperatly. I know, it happened to me. I now have two Office XP packages. One with and one with out the Developers Tool Kit.

Sorry to rain on your parade.

Norm

Deleco,

I'll have to have a look at my Developers Toolkit when I get home and provide a list of all the necessary files for you.

Although I'm sure it'll be on MSDN online somewhere..... Do a Google....

Ed Metcalfe.

Please do not feed the trolls.....

Thanks Ed, I would be grateful.

I have tried googling for the files or the MSI, but no luck as yet, ill keep trying.

But if you can find out i would be grateful.

Cheers

Deleco

I have extracted the action from the packaging wizard that installs the runtime files. But it is over 30mb and therefore cannot e-mail to anybody (our server has a 10 mb restriction). I could break itinto several parts for re-assembly at the far end if anybody is interested in trying this - not sure it will work, but if anybody wishes to try this, then leave your e-mail address and I will try this. It may take a few days for this to happen as it is getting to our month end and this may take some time.

Hi have you got access to an FTP site that you can upload it to?

Let me know, if you haven't i may be able to free up some space on my web site for you to upload it to.

Deleco

Deleco,
No I don't, any ideas of somewhere to upload it would be useful for everybody.

You have to have a Developer's Toolkit license to distribute these files. Anyone placing them on an FTP site would be in breach of copyright law.

Ed Metcalfe.

If I can find a list of all the required files I'll post it.

Be warned we're talking several hundred MB here....

Ed Metcalfe.

I still have had no luck obtaining the list of files needed for the access xp runtime.

has anyone else?

Deleco

Prepare yourself for a long post! This is 460 files!

Now surely this is worth a purple star?! :)

Deleco,
If you have the ODE then you have all you need. I would suggest that you try reinstalling ODE and try again with a very basic file, ie 1 table, 1 form and no fancy code.
To create the runtime package, IIRC, you need to go into a module and start the PAckage & Deployment Wizard from the addin menu.
Once you've got it working on a simple file, then you should be in a position to move onto a more complex files.

I would definatly try to get the PDW working rather than try to create your own.

Thankyou very much, for the files and the last post from ben.... Running the package wizard as an add-in allowed me to create the package....
