If I purchase Access XP, will I be able to distribute projects to users who have Access 2000 installed on their computer? Right now, I only have Access 97 installed. Has anyone had any luck distributing applications created in '97 for use on 2000 machines?

Yes, you can. The only limitation to it, you will need to program your DB files in the Access 2000 file format, which is the default file format of Access XP. You can however, convert DBs about the versions of Access 97, Access 2000 and Access 2002.

Related question - has anyone run Access 97 apps (either Runtime or full Access installed) on Office 2003 pc with Access 2003 installed? I have heard (but no found confirmation) that Access 2003 (Office 2003) does not play well with versions prior to 2000. Anyone had any experience?

I can't really say, but with the Beta version that I have at home, it still runs under Access 2000 file format by default.

Here's a link to Office 2003 FAQ, and go down to Installation and Compatibility

Here's another microsoft web site about file conversions in Access 2003:
