I have a database that has been running for about 5 months. All the sudden starts prompting SOME of the users for a user name and a password

EG admin
password

No password has been set up for users or groups, and it was not doing it before..

any ideas?

Details
The DB is in a shared drive and everybody has access

no changes have been made to the design

Dumboy.! Ouch.! .my brain.....
spiderdesign@yahoo.com

It's hard to think with only one neuron......Ouch.....!....it hurts when I think......!

Changes had to have been made somewhere. The only way the database would ask for a password, is if someone intentionally set up users in the database. If you create a new database file, and import all tables and such from the old one to the new one, and then use the new database, you should have no problems... untill someone adds a user again.
John Vogel
johnvogel@computerwiz.net
<a href= Home Page
Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life:
This is what happened...

There is a security hole in Access (97 and 2000) if you are using IExplorer 4.0 or above

so the fix was to set up a password at the admin level, not on the DB itself but in Access. So users did the fix, but for some reason there is like a cloud on their minds that doesn't aloud them to remember things like that.

anyway this is how you fix the bug

1. Start Access without opening any databases
2. from the tools menu choose security
3. Select users and group accounts
4. Ensure that the Name on the user block is ADMIN
5.Go to the Change Logon Password tab
6. The Admin password should be blank fi it has never been changed. If it is not blank go to Step 8
7. Assign a password that you can remember to the Admin user
8. Click apply, then OK to exit the menu and close the window to exit Access

Sometimes I just think they should change the name to Microsoft Windbugs, shouldn't they?
Dumboy.!
