Hi, I may be being a bit dim but I can't seem to get access to the user level security options from Tools when I am in my Access Project. I am using an MSQL backend to the project, is this the reason? When going to Tools|Security the only option I get is Database Security! I really need to address this as my application will be a HR database and as such I will need to assign admin, user and user/record level security.
Any ideas anyone?

Security for an Access Project as a front end to SQL Server is all handled through SQL Server, not through Access. If you're on a Windows NT network you can use Trusted Connections to cause SQL Server to use the NT Logon user name for the logon to SQL Server. Otherwise, you'll need to set up users in SQL Server and logon with those specific names. In Access, choose File, Connection, and the Connection tab of the Data Link Properties dialog box to set your SQL Server logon options.

Thanks, I've setup the Data Link Properties as Integrated Security. I've found that when opening the database from a shared drive by a user not specified as a db user login, that user can open the application (comes up with read only or locked message) and the user can edit any record. Any more info greatfully accepted.

Thanks, thats great.
Also found out why a user in the database with no apparent assigned privelages could open the database/application with ease.
By running the current_user query I found the user was being authenticated as dbo! This happens if "built in\administrators" is set as a server role on the SQL server (this is a default setting) and the user has "local" admin privelages. This is resolved by removing said "built in\administrators" from the server role.

Thanks again I am now happy with my secure dB and application.
