Have a small database that 6 users operate, for some reason 2 users get "cant open and some jet engine error someone has this open exclusively " now no-one has it open exclusively it even says this when no-one is in it, even is the administrator logs into this pc its the same error.

Its running win2000 and office 97.

does anyone know why this does it other users on the same setup opp sys etc are fine ? ive been into access and looked the the open settings but it still does it

Shot in the dark but take a look at the .ldb file asscoiated with the .mdb. If the users in question exited the db ungracefully, their username may still be logged in the .ldb file and causing the problem.

Simpliest method: Have all users exit the db, check for the existence of the .ldb file once you are 100% no users are in the db. If the file exists, someone exited the db poorly and the .ldb file needs to be cleared. Simply delete the .ldb file and it will be recreated the next time someone logs in. If all the users are out of the db and the .ldb file does not exist...this is not the problem. -------------------------------------
