Access Point Compatibility?

Hi All,
Is Access Point technology standardized? Ie., I want to replace an Access Point on a network with a different brand than that of the PC cards in the client. In my example I have an Orinoco AP and want to replace with Netgear. Thanks,

Rom what I've seen, which isn't but 4 brands, they are all pretty much interchangable, except you have to manipulate on one end or the other the ESSID so they talk to each other. Ed Fair
