Hello,

We have set Outlook to access over the internet. Everything works great, but there is a little annoyance. When you go to log in, we have set it to basic authentication. We don't want to use NTLM because the users are sometimes actually logged into a different domain. The annoyance is that you have to put the domain name in front of the username when you log in. Is there a way to make the system not require the domain name? I tried adding the domain name in the directory security page of default website\oma, but that did nothing.

Thanks!

I am using Outlook 2003, and the Outlook over HTTP connection. Funny enough, OWA works just fine and does not require the domain name in front of the username, but I can't find anything to indicate why..

Make sure you have all of your security set as follows:

Code:
Default Web site
    Enable Anonymous access
    Integrated Windows Authentication
Exadmin
    Integrated Windows Authentication
    Require SSL
        Require 128 bit
Exchange
    Basic Authentication
        Default Domain \
Exchange-oma
    Integrated Windows Authentication
    Basic Authentication
ExchWeb
    Enable Anonymous access
    Require SSL
        Require 128 bit
Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync
    Scripts and Executables
    Exchange Application Pool
    Basic Authentication
        Default Domain DomainName
OMA
    Scripts Only
    ExchangeMobileBrowseApplicationPool
    Basic Authentication
        Default Domain DomainName
Public
    Basic Authentication
        Default Domain \
    Require SSL
        Require 128 bit

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Okay,

I checked everything against your post. The only thing not matching already was the Microsoft-Server-Actvesynch. I went ahead and added the default domain name there.

However, when I open Outlook 2003 and get the password prompt, I still have to put domainname\username. I really would like to not have to put the domain name, but if there is no way around it.....

Thanks,

Jason

There is a way round it.
Have you followed everything in the setup documentation you could have missed?

Yes. Outlook was very picky about that. We had to get the certificate just perfect before we could even connect.

OK, so lets make sure you have all of the profile settings set properly.

Servername is the FQDN for your server.
Use Cached Mode is checked.

On the security tab you are set to NTLM Authentication
On the Connection Tab
Use HTTP is selected.
On Exchange Proxy Settings you have

mail.company.com
msstds:mail.company.com

both checkboxes are selected
Basic Authentication is checked.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Yup. I really think it is IIS. Usually, it is the default domain setting, but we have checked that. This isnt that big of a deal, I just hoped to avoid having to type the domain name before the username....
