Access Index Error

I was correcting a function to control the return of a null value when Access started locking up. I tried about 4 times and each time got the same. The database is split. The data database opens fine. The interface .mdb file gives an error 'AOIndex is not a valid index' and doesn't load. I've tried copying it to another database and I get the same error. I tried importing but I get the same error as soon as I select import.

I'm lost because I can't even open the file to look into the problem. Any ideas?

Have you tried to repair/compressing the database? You can do this without opening the database itself. [sig][/sig]

Yes I have and I get the same error. I also tried a utility from Microsoft called jetcomp.exe but the program didn't work right. What I am trying now is creating another database to see if I can open the other with VBA and either import or loop through the database collections and recreate everything. This is devastating because a whole department runs of this database. The nearest copy is an .mde file.

Have you tried to decompile the database? I have used this. Another question, have you held down the shift key while opening the db?

the decompile command is msaccess /decompile

put this into the run command on the start menu.

I tried the decompile option but it gave me the same error. I had not heard of this before but maybe you can tell me if I've made the properties of the icon right:

&quot;C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\MSACCESS.EXE&quot; /decompile &quot;C:\My Documents\Database\Customer2000.mdb&quot;

I've never heard of holding down the shift key either. Well, I tried it and it didn't work. I still get the same error.

I dont run the decompile from an icon. Just click start, then click run, then paste this in the box msaccess /decompile
and press enter. Access will start like normal. Open your database, and you should get a message that the vb code has been decompiled blah, blah.

If you are not able to open the database, then that is when holding down the shift key from the time you click on the selected db until it opens will bypass any startup options.

I'm not getting the results you are describing. When I try to open the problem file I get the same error. When I tried it on another file I didn't get any messages about decompiling.

When I open a database while holding the shift key it comes up to the database window so I understand that option. However, it still will not open the file I'm having problems with.

Are you open to trying yourself? I don't have any problems with somebody else trying but the file is about 4mb. I think that is because I didn't compact it last time I used it.
