What type of book or manual would anyone recommend for a beginner/intermediate type user? I would like buy one that I can use for reference and help. Any ideas?
There are a ton of books out there, some good some not so good. Not much of an answer, but what works best for you may not for others.
My suggestion would be to go to a good bookstore (Barnes & Nobles and Borders each have good computer sections), get a cup of coffee and start looking at what's on the shelves.
Before you get there, write down a few Access questions that you want answers to. In each book, use the index to look up the topic and see if the book provides a good, understandable answer and examples.
My rule is if the index can get me to the topic I want to review/research and the content both answers my question and gives me some implementation/use examples, the book will probably be a good resource. If it fails either of these tests, I put it back on the shelf and pick another.
After I have gone through what's available I'll review the table of contents of the ones I've kept out and browse a couple of chapters. This will cull the possibles down a bit more.
Given that the cost of these books usually starts at about $35.00 and goes way up from there, I want to be sure I'm going to like and will use the book I buy.
Take any advice on books you get from here and other places but let the final judge be your assessment of how valuable and useful the book will be to you.
Hope that helps a bit.
