Everytime I open an MDB now in Access 97 running under Windows XP Professional, I keep getting an error message that says "Access has encountered a problem and must shut down". Is anyone else having this problem? It's stopping me in my development tracks!

Check your dll libraries (in the vba code section) and make sure they are lining up.

Also, try creating an mde version of the database to preserver 97 features (or create mdb in 2000 and then make mde version). Just a few ideas.

data: I have a couple of Access databases created in Access 2000, then I make an MDE file out of them, and they run perfectly fine in Access XP. Other than that, I'm at a loss. I suppose you could get on line and get a good reference book for Access XP. Someone will come along with another idea. Hang in there!

Thanks for your help and encouragement. It's not Access XP that is the problem. It's running Access 97 from Office 97 on a Windows XP platform that's giving me a problem. On install, it doesn't seem to be creating the proper registry items for Access 97 (Word 97 and Excel 97 work OK).

You might try this!!

Click the Start Button
Select All Programs
Select Accessories
Select and Run the Program Compatibility Wizard

Tried it with no luck, but thanks anyway. It might be a problem with my install CD as it looks like it's not making the proper registry entries.
