Hi
We've got a couple of Access databases shared off a Windows 2000 server. Some of the users are using XP/Access 2002, but the rest are using NT4/Access 97 for the moment. I originally wrote the databases in 97.

The problem is that I'd like the people on XP/2002 to be able to continue to use the databases, but they can't. Access keeps trying to convert the database and then complains that to convert the db it needs exclusive access to the file, and that another user has it open. If I get everyone else to log off, then Access does successfully open the db in 97 format. I thought then that it might remember not to try and convert the db in the future as part of the user's profile or something, but that is not the case.

I have also checked out MS article

but this does not work - no difference is made.

So the only option I'm left with is installing Access 97 alongside 2002 and just getting everyone to use 97 for the time being. I don't like this idea very much.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

You could try splitting the database putthe frontend on each users computer the backend on the server then in theory it should'nt matter what version each user uases Dont forget to make a backup before you start

Hope this helps

Thanks - I did not think of that. It's still not ideal, but it's a workable solution :)
