Access 2000 runs slow when editing a recordset

Module code loops through all records in a recordset and takes data from one field
and places in a new field. This processing works fine in Access 97 but when
converted to Access 2000, processing slows severely and file size balloons to 70meg.
VBA coding is very simple and DAO 3.6 compatible. We're running on a Novell Server
with an NT workstation.
