Hi all,
I am trying to password-protect my Access 2000 database but it's acting funny. I want Access to prompt for a password when I open the database, but as it is, it is asking for the password when I open the database AND when I close the database. I don't want it to prompt for a password when it closes because it messes with the quick shutdown. Can anyone tell me if this is a glitch or if there is a setting for it? I have looked through all security options and tools and I can't find a thing that specifies when Access prompts for the password (open/close). Thanks for your help :)

Hi.

Do you have the database automatically compacting whenever you close the database? If it is passowrd protected, it will prompt you for a password after compacting.

Hope this helps.

Yes, that did help :) I didn't know about the compacting process requiring a password. Thanks :)

Hi again:

Actually the compacting process does not require a password. Once it is finished with the compact/repair process it re-opens the database, hence asking for a password again.

Glad it worked!

It doesn't open the database again though. It does the compact/repair, asks for the password, and then just sits there with nothing open. It's like I'm giving it permission to close.
