Hope u can help.

We are trying to access a remote SQL database however our NT server has checkpoint firewall installed, we know that we need to ammend a policy rule with port nr etc.. but need some help on how to do this, and which rule we amend

Best start is to try and make the access and then look in the firewall logsa to see which rule failed.
it will also give you the port number that you will need to add.

after that then just before the rule that failed add a new rule
if you are accessing from an internal network and will be using several machines use the network as the source
if it will only be from a singgle machine create a new object with the machines ip address and use that.
in the destination create a new object for the SQL server

then for the service if the connection isnt using a standard port (in the log the service will show as a name and npt a port) create a new service and use this (or use the service listed in the log)

set logging to long

give it a description.

then verify and install your policy

view logs to see if it works.
