Dear Friends !
My boss asked me about adventages by using VFP8 (now we are using VFP6). May be my bossess decide to buy new version. But they want to know what's good of that.
If you can - write something about or write some links and i can read it.
Very thanks ...

This is what Ramani wrote on the thread "Moving to VFP8" :

There are a number of threads you can read. Probably you can go to search and type VFP8 and search. You will get a number of threads.

These couuld be worth reading.. quick ones..

1. How to make my VFP7 or earlier coded SQL to work in VFP8?
FAQ184-3573

2. Auto Number Field
Thread184-664277

3. Is everyone using VFP 8.0?
Thread184-594562

4. An externatl thread on this..

Rob.

From VFP6 to VFP8,

Assuming that you want to upgrade the existing application..

Intellisense is a great feature which can cut your code input time.

The links drawn by Rob are worth reading.

Monika,

In addition to the benefits of moving of 8.0, you will also get (for free) all the other benefits of 7.0.

The most compelling of these is Intellisense. Yuo can tell your boss from me that Intellisense will make you a faster and more productive programmer because it will save you a lot of time when coding and make your typing more accurate. This alone will justify the cost of upgrading (well, it did for me).

It's true that you don't need 8.0 for Intellisense. It is also available in 7.0. But if you are going to the trouble and cost of upgrading anyway, you might as well get the latest version. Also, 8.0 has some additional productivity features, especially the "code references" tool, which lets you do project-wide searching.

monikai,

Part of the problem MS is having with VFP is that the older versions still work for many of the applications that are developed in-house by companies.

VFP 7 & 8 introduced many advanced features like Intel-sense, web-services, and improvements to other classes like the grid.

These improvements speed up development time. However, it can be difficult to convince your boss to upgrade if you can not show him/her something tangible.

In my opinion - upgrading is necessary in order to take advantages of these new features, but also because MS will be (if they have not already) phase out support for older versions of VFP.

Jim,

also because MS will be (if they have not already) phase out support for older versions of VFP.

That's a good point. But, regardless of whether they phase out support, they might well prevent you from applying an upgrade to an old version. In other words, if you skip several versions, when you eventually want to upgrade, you might have to buy the full product rather than the lower-cost upgrade version (on the other hand, that still might work out cheaper than buying each upgrade as it comes out).
