About Spectra

We have been using coldfusion for web site development.
We want to shift to Spectra
Could anyone let me know the advantages of Spectra over Coldfusion
Also if any, what are the speed issues?
Do we get any improvement in the speed as against Coldfusion
Also can we use the existing coldfusion code in spectra
, or is it that we will have to redesign the system completely

Hey CFProgrammer! I'll try to answer a few of your questions:

Spectra is nothing more or less than an extension of the built-in CF functions. It's more like a toolkit, fully based on ColdFusion, which offers the following standard services (clusters of components):

- Content management
- Workflow and process automation
- Roles-based security
- Personalization
- Business intelligence
- Syndication: "link" to other systems (using XML)

It runs on CF Enterprise Server, so the speed won't be much different from straight CF.
As far as I know you can use the existing CF code to a certain degree, but not fully.
Someone once described Spectra as like a real large collection of custom tags, and I think for describing Spectra in one sentence that covers it quite okay.

Spectra 1.0 & 1.5 are slower than regular coldfusion.
You will need a fairly competent server.

Yes, you can use your existing code.
