about help ? 2

Hi,

I'am new at this. I want to make a help function.
I have noticed you can make it in 2 ways.
I would like the graphical way.
I use vfp7.0 professional edition.
My question : where on the cd can i find the program to make those help files.
Do I have to download another program and is it for free ?
I found on the cd the file foxhhelp.exe but that doesn't do nothing ?
Any help would be usefull.

Hi Filip,

VFP does not provide any tools for creating help files. You have to use a dedicated help authoring tool, of which there are many available, both for purchase or as freeware.

Alternatively, you can create the help in the form of web pages, and combine them into a CHM help file using the Help Workshop (HW). HW will help you create a table of contents and an index, but you still need another tool to create the web pages.

HW used to be provided with Visual Studio. I can't remember if it is still provided with VFP, but it is available for free download from Microsoft.

Keep in mind that VFP can work with both "classic" Windows help files (HLP files) and the new "compiled HTML" variety (CHM files).

Filip,

You make CHM files from web pages. Use any web authoring tool to create the pages (FrontPage, Dreamweaver, or write the HTML by hand). There are hundreds of web authoring tools available, many of them free.

Once you have the web pages, you use the Microsoft Help Workshop, to bind them together into a CHM file. Help Workshop can also make the table of contents and index, if required.

You can download Help Workshop from the Microsoft site.

I am making my pages in frontpage en i'll see how to do the other things.

Then only install it with visual foxprow installshield express ?
