there is a connector, labeled ATX12V1 besides the power connector on the mobo. it is the connector for the power cord for P4 mobo, what does it do for an nforce2 board?

thanks

It does exactly the same on the Nforce2 it's just that these additional power connectors were first seen on P4 boards.
Basically the traditional main power socket has reached it's (load) design limit, the extra power connector was introduced to "take the strain" to reduce the current draw on the main plug.
With the ever demanding, higher consuming component list in a modern PC it was nescessary to introduce a design stop gap to gaurantee continued reliability.
