I just picked up a copy of RH9 ... it loads onto a Drive which is configured as Raid 1 (Mirror) using the ATA133 Raid ... the issue is it will not boot ... the LINUX site has a procedure for Linux 7.3 and another raid product the appendix says to goto the HighPoint site for drivers ... the highpoint site says to goto the OEM (ABIT) site ... the Abit site has no drivers for Linux for this board.

Has anyone sucessfully married this process? Or should I just turn off the HW raid and use the software raid built into Linux?

I am writing this from a box using the HPT 370 onboard a motherboard (probably an EPOX from a year or more ago). I had zero trouble getting the box to boot into RAID1, and I did not have to add any bullshi& boot parameters to LILO to tell it about the RAID.

However, you mention that you are using the HPT 372?!!?!? It's possible/likely that you are using a device that is not yet supported.

DO NOT move to software RAID, you'll be disappointed in your investment in the kick-ass hardware opportunity in the HPT device.

You might want to check kernel.org for notes in the kernel 2.5/2.6 series development to see if someone has taken up the charge to develop the necessary support for your card.

Frankly, I am surprised that the HPT 370 driver wasn't immediately compatible, but I don't know everything about the diff's in the devices.

Good luck. Stay hardware RAID.

I reinstalled and switched to LILO boot ... it is now booting but haven't mirrored the drive yet so not sure if it is working ... the Linux Bible (9) does not have any info on how to install hpt and on install does not recognize that RAID exists ... the installation sees both drives even though the HPT admin says its hiding the second drive ... still not sure what is happening with this.

My assumption is that the hardware raid should be transparent to the OS so if it is now booting I should just have to mirror the drives.

To test the mirror I removed the Primary drive ... the system did boot ... so I gather the mirror is not working
