A1000: replacing a defective hard drive

How do I replace a defective hard drive on a A1000 using the command line interface?

Any suggestion or direction will be appreciated.

can i just replace physically replace it and do nothing or do i still need to perform any type of maintenance commands?

Not sure on a A1000. With a T3 you remove the failed FRU and immediately replace it. The is a timeout of 30 minutes that if the FRU isn't replaced it powers off the array and all connected arrays. A replaced failed FRU is automatically reconstructed by the array. Check the A1000 manual.

Is it in a raid 5 lun?
Did you have a hot spare?
What state is the led in amber or green?

The A1000 does not have time limits like the T3.

Are you using Disk Suite to mirror to anything?

Any other info you may think is important give us.

I will double check the correct procedure but on the A3500 with rm6 if you had raid 5 setup with hot spare the hot spare takes over, the bad drive has amber LED, remove the drive wait 30 seconds to a minute then install new drive and reconfiguration will take place, once finished the original hot spare will go back to being hot spare

I looked on sunsolve and they said to look in RM6 documentation for drive replacement for the A1000.

Second;

The procedure for the A3500 is the same as the A1000 when running raid 5 with hot spare.

Remember through you need to make sure how lun was configured before you do this. If it was not raid 5 with hot spare you may need to do some more digging.

It sounds like the A3500 is similar to the T3 (with the exception of the timeout). The hot spare takes over and pull the failed drive/replace failed drive, and when the rebuild is complete the hot spare goes back to being the hot spare.

i hope my boss setup a hotspare so i can just throw the hd in the a1000 and forget about it. thanx kHz for your advise.

great link cndcadams!!! i'll read through that forum and gather all my info and plan from there. i don't think it's a raid 5, configuration on rm6.
