I wanted to ask more of a personnel-related question than anything technical. What kind of skills relating to Delphi do you expect people to have? Like for bosses, what do you look for people to have or obtain? Or for those that are programmers, what would you expect your co-workers to know?

(or am I correct in the assumption that the people that congregate here are primarily business programmers as opposed to utility programmers?)

I work on my own. I set my own projects, and I develop utilities as well as applications for in-house use. That said, if I decided I needed someone to help me out, or if I decided to leave, I think my requirements for the new person would be (in regards to Delphi):
[ul]
[li]A passion for programming[/li]
[li]A desire to learn and better their technique[/li]
[li]Someone who comments their code[/li]
[li]A lateral thinker. Outside-the-box solutions are something that I've found work well, teach new programming skills and techniques, and most of all, are fun.[/li]
[/ul]

Someone with these qualities, coupled with at least some experience will do well, particularly in a team that has time to share their experience.

Griffyn: That pretty much my area as well (Unusually for this forum I don't do database development) and I agree with all your points.

Unfortunatly I don't think that all employers share these views (speaking from the UK).

Steve: Delphi a feersum engin indeed.

I am a business programmer whose primary role involves enhancing and correcting an existing engineering software suite so as to respond to customer needs and to give them a reason to pay my employer an annual maintenance fee for the product!

As a programmer, I would expect my co-workers to have the following in order to work effectively as a Delphi developer:
- a sound grasp of object-oriented theory
- a passion for problem-solving
- a keenness to document their code
- a healthy suspicion of code written by human beings (as it is very likely to contain bugs)!

Generally speaking, the techniques required for any one project can be learnt on the job.
