Hi all,
My experience with PDF file have been mainly using the "Reader" to view previously created file. Lately I've encountered PDF files (OK, they're employment application forms)that requires me to print it out, fill in the necessary field and then mail or fax it in. I prefer to type in the information because it's more professional looking.

Is there a way to fill in these field with the free "Reader" or do I have to purchase something from Adobe or a third-party?

You can fill in the forms with Reader. If, that is to say, they are really "PDF Forms".

A printed form may be scanned in or created in an application, and the subsequently into a PDF.

Then a document author must take the additional step, with Acrobat 6.0 Professional, of adding true electronic form functionality to the PDF. A picture of a box doesn't mean it's a box you can type in, someone has to add than functionality to the PDF.

I recently submitted a U.S. Passport application this way: brought the application (a PDF) up in Reader/Browser, filled it in, and saved it and printed it.

I open the form with the PDF reader, but it doesn't allows me to fill out any of the fields. I guess the author didn't added the necessary funtionality. I guess I'll have to print it out and then fill it in by hand. Thanks for your help.
