I am in the process of learning how to skin (texture) low polygon models and I am stuck on how to go about putting decent looking hair on my characters head. Can anyone offer some advice or perhaps point me to a good tutorial?

I have created a face in Photoshop and have mapped it to the head using cylindrical UVW coordinates. Should I create the hair in the same file...?

I should let you know this isn't a gaming model...the polygon count is still fairly high, so I am not trying skin the whole model with one map,...just trying to find a way to create hair...Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

This originaly wasn't ment for this type of thing but i use it in lower polygon texturing

Draw a bunch of vertical lines at different pressures. pick 2 shades, a ligher and a darker and simply and quickly draw these lines.

Then smooth out the end strans of the lines and make sure the bottom off the picture is completely black

then save that file then turn it into a black and white picture and save that one. If you want you can make one for Specular

Apply the first picture to a material map and the 2nd to the Opacity map channel.

I've used this method in lower polygon texting
