Hi,

I have a database that was created in Access 97. When trying to open it in Access 2000 it says that the database was created as a read only database and therefore cannot be opened. How do I change it from read only (and can I do it from Access 2000 or do I have to do it in 97)

Thanks

Check it in Explorer, right click and select properties. See if the Read Only box is checked.

Actually, it's not a read only issue via windows explorer as I dealt with this issue directly. If you want to open and edit the database that is currently in Access 97 file format and you want to have it done in Access 2000 file format, you need to convert your database. Here is a link that will show how to convert the Access 97 to Access 2000 along with other information that you may find useful.

Be aware though, once the DB is converted to Access 2000, you CAN NOT open the DB file in Access 97. However, you can convert the DB back to Access 97 provided you have not used any features that's in Access 2000 and not in Access 97.
