Avaya IP Office 9.1.5 (Upgraded from 7.0 to 9.0.3 to 9.1.5)

Remote phone 9608 Ver 6.6029

Set up as remote 9608 extension. Problem is an audio delay of approximately 14 seconds when initiating or receiving a call . This happens on both external and internal calls. Dial external or internal extension number, call connects, audible/voice is heard in 14 seconds once timer is activated. Audio is otherwise fine after. We are using an analog CO line on the system.

System status shows the phone performing the actions immediately but the audio is delayed. As well, when you go to dial a number on speaker or handset there is no intercom tone, if you wait 14 seconds the intercom tone will be heard. Dial number and the audio works immediately.

I have tried to uncheck Direct Media Path in the system, 802.1q Off instead of Auto on the telephone set. All other system programming is per the installation manual.

Ports on Netgear FVS336GV3 router, Netgear Switch GS716TV3, VLAN2
1719 – 1720 UDP
1719 – 1720 TCP
5060 UDP
5060 TCP
AUDIO 49152-53246 UDP (to match RTP range in Avaya IP Office)

Thanks.

Still have a 14 second audio delay on call initiation and termination on a 9608 remote phone. Reconstructed the network to eliminate Auto VOIP VLAN for voice network as well as other VLAN set ups. Network now set up with Netgear Router and Switch with default VLAN1 192.168.1.1 and additional VLAN for network only (plug and play). IP Office with internal Static IP. Tried changing codecs, deleted and added back a new extension for remote phone. Tried to eliminate the switch and use only the router but same 14 sec audio delay still present. Remote phone/extension works fine when set up internally, including call initiation but persists with 14 second audio delay during call initiation/termination when used remotely. Even got a new static IP for the network and speeds test are fine at 25 down/5 up. On system monitor, the phone dialing actions are immediate but audio delay of 14 seconds persists. When you push intercom /call appearance button or dial another internal extension there is no audio for 14 seconds. Call termination appears to have the same audio delay. You hang up, the call is held too long then finally disconnects. Audio during calls is fine with no delays in speech/conversation remotely. However, when I run a speed test on my network the audio completely cuts out for both parties during the Upload portion of the test although the speed results are fine at 5 mbps upload. There is no other activity on the network during this time/test. When I ping the phone there is no packet loss and the avg. return trip is 11ms. What on earth is causing this 14 sec delay ONLY on call initiation/termination, no audio during upload test and only remotely ?

Have you tried a different router? Netgear is not high on my list of reputable routers. any H323 or SIP ALG's turned on in it? Sounds like it's messing with your voice packets.

I have not tried a different router. I have used the same Model at customer sites with good success, however, a lemon is always a possibility. SIP alg is off by default and I double checked just in case. Network switch and router have latest firmware. Interestingly, the phone does say "retrieval failure" but then it works after making a call and shows the correct name and extension, etc.. The 14 second audio delay also occurs with transferred calls to and from the remote phone. I was going to try setting it up as a remote phone on another 9.1 system (I understand the phone software must match the IP Office system software version to operate correctly). I was also thinking of just getting another h323 phone to test altogether. Could this be a bug in the system, especially since I upgrade from 7 to 9.03 to 9.1 ??

If you understand how this all works its immediately clear this is a network issue, either equipment or links, it is not the IPO or phone :)
