Can you go backwards in firmware on a digital phone? I have a new phone that's not coming up on an older system. Same type of phones, but the new phone has a higher firmware. It gets power but stays at please wait. I've tried various ports, the odd thing is that it sometimes works on some ports, but when you plug it back into that port later it won't work. I'm baffled, so I'm leaning towards firmware.

If you have Combo cards then a phone attached to a port can uograde/downgrade but a second phone will not upgrade/downgrade unless you power cycle the IP Office.
Use sysmonitor to look what firmware it tries to load and put that file on your fileserver.

Some of the new 9508 (actually all of them for a while now) are not downgrading
I think there is an Avaya PSN out there for it that they come with firmware that cannot downgrade past a certain point.

Just a couple of thoughts
* With Monitor you can see what files the phones are requesting. Maybe they are looking for a bootloader file that is not on the memory card. You can pull it out of a Manager install folder and put it on the system using embedded file management.
* Have you tried just upgrading the whole system to the latest version of their release? If the phone won't go back as far as it needs to, you could try and bring the system closer to it and close the gap that way.
