I Just built a new system. 1.7 ghz athlon 384 DDR KS75A ECS board witha gerforce 4 MX 440 and 80 gig drive.

I guess do to the size of the drive XP pro went NTFS on me. Anyhow. I have a 950 athlon on an MSI k7t turbo with a geforce 2 mx 200 in it 20 gig hard drive and less ram pc 133. My 950 loads games faster, boots faster and seems to be out perfomring my 1.7. Is this possible. I checked my bios and all is set. I dl'd the latest detonator drivers for my gerforce 4. Just running like crap. I have wiped it out twice and reinstalled. Could this be do to the NTFS partition . the other system is running FAT-32? Please help. The only reg tweaks I did was close out messener in services and make sure auto update and auto save were off. I'm at a total loss. I watched my son load unreal 2003 on the 950 fast where as it took me at least 5 min longer. Also in q3 I set my max FPS to 125 when I frag someone it drops down to the about 50 frames. On the other system witha weaker card running same res 800-600 32 bit color no loss @ all. Thatnks for any help or suggestions.

I doubt it is the file system (NTFS or FAT32) that is causing a slowdown. The speed difference between the 2 file systems is nearly unnoticable.

Defragging your system would be step one. And I would recommend doing it with something better then XP Defrag. My personal choice is O&O Defrag (its can be downloaded and used for a limited time, so just uninstall it when you are done). It includesa pagefile and MFT defragger, but these only operate when you reboot, so don't forget to do that after your defrag your disk.

Now, if that makes no difference you need to dig further. bring up Task Manager (press Alt-Ctrl-Del) and see what (if anything) is hogging all your CPU cycles when you are trying to load programs.

Running a Virus checker (i use AVG Free Edition) is a GOOD IDEA, as is running a spyware sniffing program like Spybot Search & Destroy (free).

And you could try going to Start .. Run .. msconfig and hit ENTER. Have a look around there and see what is loading automatically at start up, there my be some nasty little program loading up that your don't need.

Good Luck

My money's on bad (or outdated) chipset drivers on the new motherboard. Check the manufacturer's website.

I went to the ecs website and I saw they have a agp driver avalaible but its not like via whee you can dl the whole 4 and 1 pack its all individual files. I will check the manufacturer site and also go with Jfryer I did not defrag after install. I'll run some pccillin.

[tt]KS75A mobo?? or issit K7S5A?? hey you can download the overclockers' verwsion of the BIOS (cheepoman's) on

What the overclockers' version does its that it unlocks the FSB limiting on the ECS mobo. if you're using the v3.1 then you have the same mobo that I have. I'm using AMD's Athlon XP 2000+ with Kingston PC2100 512MB RAM and a nVidia TNT2 ultra 32MB and it works fine...

If you already using PC2100 RAM, try downloading and install the BIOS update from the above link.

Warning: this BIOS updating is for those who know how to flash it. If you don't know how, I have other suggestions.

WinXP has a very nice look and feel to it, dont you think? but all those extra features of WinXP actually takes up memory space as well as CPU time. to disable these features, rightclick on My Computer->properties->Advanced and click on settings for Performance. click on Adjust for best performance and click on OK, click on OK. Your desktop will now have a look of Win2K/Win9x. You can also disable one more feature when you go into display properties->Appearance->Effects. Make sure everything is unticked and click on OK, OK.

Try out the last suggestion first. Tell me if this helps.

I tried all you said but the 950 still fast to the 1.7. I did not flash the bios as I am not familiar with this. I think it came with instructions on the dl though ;) I'll try anything once. I'm useing latest nvidia drivers on both . Can someone toss me a link of current chipset drivers for this mobo.
