I have to implement ESA on three different OP81C. For 2 of the 3 PBX (lets say switch A and B), the 911 calls need to go to the city PSAP and an OSN has to be programmed. For the other one (switch C), the 911 calls have to go to a local phone on site. On the 3 PBX, AC1 is 89 and AC2 is 86. I have done some reading on how to do this but I am confused as I'm not familiar with a few technical statements... I'm french by the way and sometimes, when things get really technicals I get somewhat confused...

What is a CAMA trunk and what type of card do I need to set it up?

Should I use CAMA or ISDN trunks? I have ISDN trunks out to the PSTN on the 3 switches.

A step by step configuration would be greatly appreciated as I'm confused with all the acronyms used like ANI, ALI, tandem 911 etc...

Right now, switch C has AC1 setup as 9. I programmed an SPN 911 and the appropriate RLI and DMI to send the 911 calls to an extension on the switch. But I need to change the AC1 to 89 as we will soon network the three switches and level the NCOS's.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

If you use LD24 ESA data block, you don't need to worry about all that AC1, etc.

Let's start with types of trunks: In your two switches where it is going to the local PSAP, I would use your existing ISDN trunks. You will probably need to call your telco to see about E911 to send specific location information, unless you just want to send your main billing number and address on 911 calls. CAMA trunks are older-style messaging trunks that aren't used much any more; or don't have to be at least with ISDN-PRI trunks.

That leads to the next question about ALI, ANI, etc. On ISDN trunks, your ANI is the main number assigned to that trunk. Without E911, that ANI is placed in the ALI (Automatic Location Information) database for 911 call centers. When you all 911 on a PRI trunk, the ANI is sent and is looked up in the ALI for the call center. They send the police, fire, etc. If you want to provide more specific information, lets say, for a multi-building campus, you would need to subscribe to E911 from your telco and pay them to enter the location info for you. Then on your CLID tables, you decide what number gets sent out and those are the numbers the telco programs into the ALI database for you.

Going on to OSN keys: It can only go on one phone in the switch. First you program it on the phone, then you build your LD24 datablock (or change it if it already exists) and point it to that OSN key.

For switch C, your are OK as is for local termination of 911. When you change your AC1 to 89, you should then be able to really make an extension "911" since AC1 won't conflict any more. Then, you can use the same setup that you have now to do an SPN of 911 so if users dial 89+911 it will terminate on your DN 911.

For a step-by-step for 911 on switch A&B see my next post. -Matt

First, let's put the OSN key on your phone at each switch. It must be a *SINGLE APPEARANCE* number:

LD11/20
REQ CHG
TYPE (2008, 2616, 39XX, etc)
TN L S C U
<enter to KEY>
KEY xx OSN

Then we configure your LD24 ESA datablock:

LD 24
REQ NEW
TYPE ESA
CUST 0
ESDN 911
ESRT 0 (your ISDN route #, zero in my case)
DDGT <enter or 911 again>
DFCL <enter>
OSDN xxxx <the extension that has your OSN key>
--end--

Now, let's go to your BARS/NARS loads and make 911 a local termination entry so it goes to the ESA datablock:

LD 86
REQ NEW
CUST 0
FEAT DGT
DMI 9 (or unused DMI to be used for ESA calls)
<enter to end; no changes needed>

Also in LD86:
REQ NEW
CUST 0
FEAT RLB
RLB 9 (need unused RLI to be used for ESA calls)
ENTR 0
LTER YES
DMI 9 (or new DMI just built)

Now in LD90 we modify the necessary SPN for AC+ESA calls:
LD90
REQ CHG
CUST 0
FEAT NET
TRANS AC1 (or AC2 if it's there also)
TYPE SPN
SPN 911
...
RLI 9 (or new RLI you just built)

Do this in switches A & B to send your calls out the local ISDN route to the telco/PSAP, and if users dial AC1 or AC2+911 it will go there also.

Hope this helps! -Matt

This is much appreciated Matt. I will set this up in lab tomorrow. One last thing, the direction don't want to have to dial 89 + 911 (on the C switch) but only 911. I guest I simply use ESA as well then?

Thank you again, you just save me a few days trying to figure out this thing )

Matt, I just got it.... Never mind about my last reply.

You rock!

You're very welcome. Glad I could help; I assume you discovered that when 911 is in your ESA block it is directly dialable like a DN then. Good luck! -Matt
