i am, in vain so it seems, ( i find this web site torturous to navigate )trying to get help with a back up data compression problem. I run ArcServe on NT4.0. I use DDS3 12 GB( native capacity ) Sony Tapes with a HP SureStore Dat drive but can only achive 90% data compression: these tapes should hold 24 GB of compressed data. Each Arcserve backup session is flagged by "w3032 compression is disabled due to hardware data compression". Can someone please help with my compression problems.
Thanks

PS bumble is my handle how can someone else have it !!!!

Arcserve is disabling the Software Compression as your Hardware supplies the compression.
Compression varies due to the types of files. Zip files don't compress where as text files will compress a lot.
