I have an odd problem. We just upgraded a couple of our workstations to HP xw4200's and have been able to reinstall all our software except the Oracle stuff. Autorun starts up, we hit the Install/Uninstall option and after a few seconds the process dies with no error. Does the same thing on both new computers.

As a side note the Oracle 9i client disk works with no problems. Just seems to be the files on the 8i disks. Also copying the files to the local drive and trying to execute them from there has no effect.

Has anyone come accross this type of error before?

New system stats:
XP Pro sp2
P4 3.2GHz
2GB RAM

Hi,There is a known issue with P4 and 8i clients.
Search this forum or google for P4 and Oracle

Absolutely correct. IIRC its to do with the incorrect version of symcjit.dll. You need to download the correct version of this file from Sun, copy it over the one(s) in your install directory, set its properties to read-only, run the install again and ignore the error when it tries to overwrite the read-only file.

I've always just renamed symcjit.dll to symcjit.old (or whatever) with the same effect, but I guess downloading a new one won't hurt either.
