I just received a 32MB Flash upgrade that I wish to use to replace the Flash that came with my CISCO871W router. The flash came from MemoryTen and was advertised as fully compatible for my particular manufacturer and model router.
I exchanged the flash memory and restarted the router. ROMMON spit out several hundered messages regarding blocks 151-406: "checking block xxx ...bad block number (xxx) erasing block xxx ... done". ROMMON cycled through this error sequence twice then gives up with no flash: available after the messages are posted. I used ROMMON to format the flash: 3 times, each time getting the block errors. So I gave up and put the original flash back in the machine and used TFTP to move all the files that I had backed up from flash: to my TFTP server. I'm running IOS 12.4(9)T.
I couldn't find any information on the CISCO web site that talked about any particular configuration parameters needed by ROMMON when installing a flash upgrade.
Anyone else have first hand experience in upgrading flash in an 800x series router? Any suggestiong? Maybe the new flash is defective.
