Greetings, I have a phone that I am setting up in my PBX room that I initially installed on a 4 wire port (TN754B)and to move it to the location it will be installed requires a 2 wire port, so I did some swapping and got a 2 wire port freed up, but now the 8434 doesn't seem to download. It yields service status of disconnected and Download status of pending (for a few days). I have bused and released, with no effect. I remember telcoguy mentioning FEA codes, but I'm not familiar with what that stands for or where to find them. Thank you,

I have a 8434dx and treat it as any other Digital phone. On your Station form is it set to 8434dx.Do you have the power supply hooked up? Wisdom is Knowledge

Thanks All Phoneman2

I would ensure that the cross connect is done properly to the center pair and that the jack is properly wired.

I guess I left out some pertinent details, my apologies. I do have the 1151A1 power supply connected as follows: jack to line port on 1151A1 via mounting cord (RJ45), and phone port on 1151A1 to phone (line port). My port on the G3 is a single pair on a TN2181 to the jack and terminated on the blue/white pair. I do have it administered as an 8434D (8434DX isn't an option in my G3siV6). I've been through all the simple stuff (busy/release, test station, etc) and seem to be hung up because it was originally a 4 wire phone, and I can't tell it download as a 2 wire phone. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Let me take a shot at it....

Which port on the 2181 card is it?... remember that on a 2181 card 110 block or BIX, it goes 4 pairs/ports than skips 4 pairs, then 8 pairs/ports, skips 4 pairs and then 4 pairs/ports, making up the 16 ports.

Also make sure that the cables/patch cords from the jack to the power supply and the patch cord from the power supply to the phone are either DW8 or 4 pair patch cables. Does not matter for the jack to supply, but the one to the phone is important for the power.

Also make sure that the port on the station form is the one you are connected to on the patch panel or 100 block. Too easy but also must be checked.

Again I've left out details....sorry. If I plug an 8410D working in 2 wire mode (my switchroom phone)into the test jack for this 8434DX it will work. The 8434DX worked in 2 wire mode prior to plugging it into a 4 wire jack. I plugged it into my switchroom jack. I haven't been able to get it to work in 2 wire since I connected it to 4 wire circuit. Sorry I've left out so many details, I appreciate your help.

Try a different 8434D on that port and rule out the phone itself. You may have blown it.

As soon as I hook it back to a 4 wire circuit, it's back to operational. I feel a little better about going to this forum. I've tried most of the suggestions so far already, I was afraid this was common knowledge. Thanks

This problem was an issue with the first releases of 2 wire phone sets. (8434,603E1)
On a 4 wire config the set data gets updated into ram memory in the phone continuously.
On a 2 wire config the set configuration is written to programmable memory on the phone.
In order to get the settings into the phone over 2 wires, the wires that carry the phone signals are temorarily used to upload the settings.
The uploading happens usually when you connect a phone, or when you do an forced upload via the FEA code.
In the early firmware on the phone, once a phone got connected to a 4 wire port, it did not bother to 'listen' to the detection bit for 2 wire, and so locking it in the 4 wire loop, without ever releasing the 2 wires for uploading the settings.
This was fixed in later releases, and at the time Lucent, swapped sets with this issue free of charge.

Hope this helps,

Rob
