Hi,

I am currently studying for the CIT exam, this is my last CCNP exam and the first that I have had any problems with so I would be interested in discussing other experiences of this exam.

I have been using the official Cisco course guide (I attended it 3 weeks ago) and Cisco Press: Cisco Internetwork Troubleshooting - Self Study guide but neither really seemed to cover the material. The exam itself asked a lot of questions about motivations for documenting a network and the process for doing it properly and this was barely covered in the course/book at all.

How have you all prepared for the new CIT exam? Can you recommend any recent books? Any help is gratefully appreciated, I just failed it for the second time today - a third would be just degrading ;-)

Thanks,

Mark.

Ok guys,
In case any of you are having trouble with the CIT exam, I can strongly recommend the current edition of CCNP Exam Certification Guide by Amir Ranjbar/Cisco Press.

Usually I prefer a self study guide that offers a broader range of information similar to the course but if you just need to fill in the gaps in your knowledge required to pass the exam, clarify some Cisco troubleshooting techniques or just get some exam practice (the book comes with a full set of Boson tests on CD), this is strongly recommended.

Good luck everyone,

I would have to say the Cisco Press book by Ranjbar is not of much use by itself. Documentation techniques/processes are well covered in the book, but troubleshooting details are not. I supplemented the Ranjbar book with Rybaczyk's Cisco Router Troubleshooting Handbook. It goes into much more detail than you need to pass the exam but will remain of use as a general reference.

Lupidus,

Thanks for the post, I think that is a reasonable observation. This book is *very* useful to learn the theory of Cisco's documentation and troubleshooting processes in clear and easy to follow language. Where it lacks might be some of the breadth of applying it to a wide range of scenarios.

The scenarios that it gives are all very useful and valid and from my experience of Cisco tests/courses/publications they are very appropriate for the kinds of questions that might be asked. My only gripe would be that there are some notable exemptions such as troubleshooting NAT but that shouldn't be a problem as this should be the last exam taken and a quick read through of your notes/books from the previous subjects should be all thats required.

Anyway... I have passed now with 874 and I am CCNP. Wahey.

Markus.
