I have a live wired phone jack in the lobby of one of our facilities, and when I plug a known good 8411D set in to it, and try to merge it into the switch config, I get nothing. No lights, no dial tone, etc...However, if I plug an 8434D set into the same jack, I can merge it into the switch just fine. Any clue as to what the problem may be? Do these two sets require different wiring at the jack or the demarc? Thanks for any help...

The 8434 set usually comes with (or can be bought with) the KS-22911 power supply and the 267F2 adaptor. This allows you to hook adaptor to a RJ-45 jack, your phone plugs into the adaptor and a RJ-11 cord between the power supply and the lower part of the adaptor. This simply puts 48 VDC to the brown pair for the display.

An 8434 set will give you dialtone but no display if you connect it without adjunct/closet power. The 8411 won't work at all without power.
