Hi

Has anyone out there got any experience of comparing 837 ADSL perfremance/stability with a router that uses a WIC-1ADSL card, such as a 1721? I have an issue where multiple 837s seem to lose the line as signal-to-noise ratio increases, but a 1721 on the same line seems to be stable.

Is there an IOS issue here, or possibly a config chnage to allow for a noisy line?

Thanks

Cisco embed the ADSL firmware in the IOS release - see here for IOS and what ADSL firmware is included:

You can also download firmware for the ADSL modem. Have a look here:

ftp://ftp.cisco.com/pub/access/800/

Read the documents first as the ADSL firmware are specific for a module or router with integrated ADSL modem.

I had an 837, and now I have a 2620XM with a WIC-1ADSL. I had the connection drop 2 or 3 times total with the 837 (had it about 8 months), but no noise problems whatsoever. I have not had one single problem with the 2620XM and the WIC-1ADSL (In 4 months or so).

I have an 877 with the latest IOS - 12.4(15)T1. I had some issues where it would retrain every so often. I installed the latest firmware for the Alcatel 20190 ADSL modem (AMR-3.0.033.bin) and it trained up at 7648Kbps and hasn't dropped out since.
The release notes don't say anything about retrains, however this new firmware has made it much more stable.

Have you seen any bug reports specific to your issue Andy? I know you said that the release notes did not, assuming you mean for the actual firmware upgrade, but what about bug reports?

Burt

To be honest Burt I didn't look. The installation notes state:{quote]CSCsf11228: 85x/87x/180x ping delay is higher, than with an external modem
CSCse94912: 1801 does not train at ADSL2+ rates to Alcatel 7302[/quote]
Since it is working perfectly I have just left it alone....
